Microsoft Outage
CrowdStrike, a U.S. cybersecurity company that advertises being used by over half of Fortune 500 companies, said one of its recent content updates had a defect that impacted Microsoft's Windows Operating System, adding the incident was "not a security incident or cyberattack."The defective update has affected flights, public transit systems, and operations at banks and hospitals worldwide.
CrowdStrike, market value of over $83 billion, is one of the world's most popular, with over 20,000 subscribers worldwide, as per reports. According to an alert sent by CrowdStrike to its clients its widely used "Falcon Sensor" software caused Microsoft Windows to fail and display a blue screen, known unofficially as the "Blue Screen of Death".
Windows Outage:A widespread issue with Windows itself can also be considered a Microsoft outage. This could involve system crashes, errors preventing core functionality,or problems with updates.
cloud platforms like AWS and Azure offer disaster recovery solutions that can be beneficial in broader outage scenarios:
Migrating Workloads: Businesses can leverage AWS or Azure's disaster recovery services to migrate critical applications to a different cloud platform during a Microsoft outage.
Backup and Replication:Cloud providers offer data backup and replication services that can be crucial in restoring data and applications after an outage, even if it's not directly related to the cloud platform itself.
NOTE:
It wasn't caused by Microsoft itself, but by a faulty update from a cybersecurity company called CrowdStrike that impacted millions of Windows devices. This caused disruptions similar to a Microsoft outage
